Where to Find Data for Community and Voluntary Organisations
13:00 - 16:00 | 28 January 2025 | Oru Sutton, 7 Throwley Way, Sutton, SM1 4AF
Join this South West London Research Support Network event to discover key health and wellbeing data sets to shape services and beyond.
Finding the right data to support your VCSE organisation’s goals can be challenging. Where do you look? How can you analyse huge data sets to drill down to what you need or even start to compare against your own data?
This South West London Research Support Network Cafe aims to reduce this overwhelm and provide a supportive space to explore a range of data sources relevant to your work.
About the session
The session will be led by Alice Linell (Data Programmes Lead) and Karen McLean (Data Support Adviser) from Superhighways, who will guide you through following key data resources:
- Census 2021 and other ONS datasets
- Fingertips (Public Health)
- Local Insight platform
- Health Insights (SWL ICS Health Population Data)
This hands-on session will cover:
- Defining Your Questions: Start by identifying the specific questions you want to answer, ensuring your exploration is focused and productive.
- Previewing Data Sets: Explore a range of datasets, from age, ethnic group, or language spoken, to health and disability information or hours of unpaid care, and spend time navigating those most relevant to your work. You will learn to understand trends over time, at various geographic levels – from London-wide stats to smaller local areas in South West London. The choice is yours!
- Data Presentation and Comparison Tools: Discover applications like mapping tools, Excel pivot tables, and PowerBI to help you analyse and present your findings effectively.
- Collaborative Learning: Share insights and challenges with other participants, for collective learning and inspiration.
Attendees will leave the session with:
- A clear understanding of how to access and navigate relevant datasets.
- Practical skills to analyse and present data for maximum impact.
- Access to follow-up one-to-one support from Superhighways.
- Opportunities to join free open training sessions for further skill-building in data analysis and visualisation.
About South West London Research Support Network
The South West London (SWL) Research Support Network, established by the NHS South West London Integrated Care System, is a collaborative initiative to empower local communities and voluntary organisations to conduct their own research.
Through a series of relaxed network meetings, members can engage in mutual learning opportunities with a diverse group of researchers and community members. This informal setting encourages open dialogue and the sharing of ideas, making it easier to change insights into various research methodologies and best practices.
In addition to exchanging knowledge with experienced community members and researchers, members will also have the chance to network with peers, which can lead to the formation of collaborative relationships and partnerships, that leverage the strengths and expertise of all involved.
