Health Network Workshops

The Health Network Workshops tackle industry-specific issues, including funding, skills and regulatory guidance to boost the health industry. These workshops aim to facilitate knowledge exchange, networking, peer-to-peer learning and collaboration between universities and industry to create a long term, sustainable community and platform of resources within the health sector in South London.

Workshop 1: 1-to-1 Business diagnostic

Facilitator: Dr Richard Mackenzie, School of Health and Life Sciences, University of Roehampton

The first workshop will act as an introduction to the programme and aims to support businesses to understand and effectively describe their business, business model, goals, needs, barriers, strengths and weaknesses. It will establish a tailored pathway to get the most from the Health Network programme and create a benchmark for business growth.

Workshop 2: Learning from health partners (peer-to-peer learning)

Facilitator: Dr Richard Mackenzie, School of Health and Life Sciences, University of Roehampton

This interactive session will provide a networking opportunity and act as a platform to share best practices, listen, and learn from others in the health industry. It will enable discussions around problems inhibiting  growth, and help develop solutions that may help to shape future of business development.

Workshop 3: Marketing your business effectively

Facilitator: Daisy Wood, Centre Manager at Sussex Innovation Network

This workshop will explore tactics to reach and convert customers on a small budget, delegates will gain insight into how to use social media marketing to reach customers, and how to get marketing departments to focus on activities that deliver within a health context.

Workshop 5: Post-support session

Facilitator: TBC

This session is designed to recap on learnings from the Health Network Workshop programme and gauge progress against benchmarks from the 1-to-1 diagnostic form. At the end of this session businesses will have developed a tailored plan of action, reviewed the success of the programme and received relevant signposting to further support.

Workshop 6: Innovation in health & well-being

Facilitator: Daisy Wood, Centre Manager at Sussex Innovation Network

In this session delegates will gain an understanding of the power of innovation, look at case study examples of innovation processes, learn why health businesses need to have an innovation process, and how to facilitate an innovation idea generation session.

Workshop 7: Regulatory guidance

Facilitator: TBC

This workshop will look at regulatory guidance, for example. medical device standards, food standards, and shelf-life testing etc.

Workshop 8: Lean thinking – how to do more with less in health innovation

Facilitator: Daisy Wood, Centre Manager at Sussex Innovation Network

In this session delegates will gain an understanding of Lean Thinking and processes that allow a business to achieve its goals with the same or less resources. The workshop will help develop health-associated ideas around this notion, and identify processes that can make the team more effective.

Workshop 9: The future of health sectors – generating creative solutions

This workshop will look at the future of the health and care sectors, identifying its challenges and developing creative solutions. This session will clearly identify future issues and opportunities in the health sector and help delegates establish strategies to future-proof their business via a creative mindset.

Workshop 10: Bidding for NHS or R&D funding opportunities

Facilitator: TBC

The workshop will introduce funding streams for new product or service development, and introduce the benefits of linking with an academic partner and student to develop funding bid. It will also highlight specific funding opportunities specific to the development of delegate’s businesses (e.g. Innovate UK). Follow-on support can include developing funding ideas and applications.
