The LSBU Energy Advice Centre

The Energy Advice Centre (EAC) was established in January 2023 by London South Bank University (LSBU) with a simple goal to help London households reduce energy bills during a time of rising living costs. The energy support offered focuses on providing residents with information on accessing grants and practical advice to improve their energy efficiency, thus helping them to save money and reduce carbon. In the past two years, the EAC has helped more than 200 households, not only in London but also across the UK. Strengthening the reach within our local community, we have become an official partner of Southwark Council.

Expanding to Support Businesses

While LSBU’s EAC began with the purpose of helping households, we quickly recognised a pressing need among local businesses, which were also severely affected by the cost-of-living crisis, with a typical small business having to pay around £5,000 extra on their bills when compared to pre-2021 prices. To address this, the EAC has recently started to offer tailored advice to support businesses on energy efficiency, helping them to cut operational costs and reduce their carbon footprint. This initiative reflects LSBU’s broader commitment to transforming the local community and businesses to applied education and research.

Partnering with BIG South London

Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), the BIG South London is a programme of support aimed at boosting business growth in South London. The programme provides high-quality support to guide South London businesses when accessing funding, launching new products, developing branding and marketing strategies, managing supply chains or minimising their carbon footprint. The EAC is a partner in BIG South London, helping businesses that sign up with free, tailored energy advice. The dedicated support offered through BIG South London will involve detailed site visits powered by Thermafy, a bespoke action plan on how to reduce energy use and access grant funding for low-carbon energy generation technologies, such as PV panels and heat pumps.
