Creative collaborations

We nurture partnerships to create positive change through knowledge exchange. Our students, graduates and academics work with businesses, charities, community groups, social enterprises and local government to apply our creative expertise to real-world situations. We use our creativity and innovative thinking to co-create value for society, the economy and the environment.
Our South London colleges include Wimbledon College of Arts (Merton), Camberwell College of Arts (Southwark) and London College of Communication (Southwark).
BIG Growth: Innovation Vouchers
We provide South London businesses with 10 days of focused innovation consultancy and collaboration time with UAL academics or technical staff over 2024. We work closely with partners to scope creative-led innovation projects to tap into the right knowledge, skills and imagination needed to develop new products and services, improve productivity, reach new markets, and reduce carbon. Creative Futures
Creative Futures offers diverse-led support for creative businesses to innovate their business models as part of a knowledge exchange community over 5-months at UAL. Each year, we bring together over twenty creative founders along with UAL academics, practitioners and associates for a series of regular workshops, events and mentoring to nurture purpose-led businesses and social enterprises.

Innovation Lab
A unique centre for creative textile and materials engineering technologies in partnership with The Welding Institute, which aims to expand the field of design research and technology innovation in textile and fibre-based materials science and engineering with creativity at its core. Focuses will include circular and bio-inspired design, material and environmental sciences, creative computing, additive manufacturing (AM) technologies and Industry 5.0, offering a holistic approach.

UAL Creative Computing Institute (CCI) explores the relationship between cutting edge computer science, the creative economy and the arts. We ask new questions, solve new problems, and develop technologies that accelerate knowledge and innovation across society. Our expertise includes creative AI, the application of machine learning in the creative industries, promoting computational equalities and the effects of new technology, computation and big data. CCI have partnered with UK Black Tech to deliver free real-world skills in e-commerce and web development to the black community in the London Borough of Southwark across 2024 and 2025.

The Challenge Lab supports collaborative problem solving between UAL and the local community through action-research projects, community hacks and events. The Challenge Lab is a platform to pilot and test new concepts and approaches that could go on to seek long-term project funding.

The Hub
The Hub supports South London businesses and residents to come together to explore emerging technologies, learn new skills and develop creative ideas. A partnership between UAL and London Borough of Southwark, it hosts an incubator programme for local digital and tech businesses, a public events programme and offers low-cost space hire for the community.
