Writing for Publication: Making Your Work Visible
12:00 - 14:00 | 25 June 2025 | Online via MS Teams

Join this session on how to transform your research, evaluation or improvement work into a peer-reviewed journal article.
About this event
Across health, care, and community settings, people are doing important work – evaluations, service improvements, and research projects that deserve a wider audience. But too often, this work remains within internal reports or presentations.
Whether you are working with a report, a project summary, or early ideas, this online Network Café will support you in turning your project into a peer-reviewed article.
It is for those in VCSEs, the NHS, local authorities, and academic settings who want to share their learning more widely and contribute to the evidence base.
You are encouraged to bring along a piece of work you would like to publish. The session will combine discussion, writing exercises, and peer support in a relaxed and collaborative environment.
About this session
The session will be co-facilitated by Dr Catherine Heffernan and Dr Vageesh Jain, both Consultants in Public Health with extensive experience of publishing academic work — and being rejected! Their combined expertise will offer real-world, constructive advice grounded in practice.

- Converting real-world data and practice into a publication
- Choosing the right journal, type of article, and understanding your audience
- Navigating the peer review process and responding to feedback
You will also receive links to publishing resources and examples of successful submissions for reference.
Attendees will leave the session with
- A clearer plan for turning their project and ideas into a paper
- Greater confidence in navigating the publishing process
- Practical advice grounded in lived experience
- Encouragement and support from a community of peers working on similar goals
About South West London Research Support Network
The South West London (SWL) Research Support Network, established by the NHS South West London Integrated Care System, is a collaborative initiative to empower local communities and voluntary organisations to conduct their own research.
Through a series of relaxed network meetings, members can engage in mutual learning opportunities with a diverse group of researchers and community members. This informal setting encourages open dialogue and the sharing of ideas, making it easier to change insights into various research methodologies and best practices.
In addition to exchanging knowledge with experienced community members and researchers, members will also have the chance to network with peers, which can lead to the formation of collaborative relationships and partnerships, that leverage the strengths and expertise of all involved.
