SWL Research Support Network: How to Conduct Surveys

12:00 - 14:00 | 9 August 2024 | Online

Is your project looking to deliver a killer survey with the power to inform future decisions? Are you looking for practical tips to help you get the most out of your survey?

The SWL Research Support Network is excited to invite you to its next session exploring “How to Avoid Losing Friends and Alienating People with Surveys,” presented by Dr. Catherine Heffernan, Director of Health Improvement at Southwest London Integrated Care Board and Visiting Senior Lecturer at King’s College London.

Catherine says: “Anybody can write down a list of questions and ask people to answer them but producing usable data from questionnaires needs careful planning. In this research café session, we will talk about how to frame questions to get the information you need and reduce feedback fatigue.”

About the session

In this interactive webinar session, Dr Heffernan will share her extensive experience in conducting surveys as part of her research activities. The session will focus on practical insights and some of the common mistakes that people make when undertaking first-hand research. It will also cover:

  • How to design an effective survey that gets the most out of your participants
  • Key question types and formatting
  • How to distribute surveys and collect responses
  • How to analyse quantitative data to inform decisions

Rather than a traditional lecture, this session will be an engaging discussion around avoiding common mistakes and how to perform a quick and effective questionnaire.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from real-world examples and gain valuable knowledge that can be applied to their own research projects.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to enhance your survey skills!

Register now to secure your seat and feel free to share with colleagues who may be interested in benefitting from Catherine’s insights.

About South West London Research Support Network

Are you curious to learn more about what research is, and how you can get involved yourself?

Are you a voluntary sector organisation wanting to invest in and conduct more research to benefit your organisation and the community you serve?

The new South West London (SWL) Research Support Network is here to help local communities and voluntary sector organisations become more aware of research practices and learn how to conduct their own effective research. This network will help people learn from one another and develop skills and confidence to become more integrated in the research sphere, potentially leading a project themselves.

Over a cup of tea or coffee with refreshments, you get the chance to hear from an experienced researcher on a research topic, ask questions and share knowledge with others.

Most meetings are in person at different venues across the boroughs of Croydon, Sutton, Merton, Wandsworth, Richmond and Kingston. Meetings are free to attend. Whether you’re a seasoned researcher or just starting out, this is the perfect opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals in a relaxed and friendly environment.
