SWL Research Support Network: Measuring Outcomes & Proving Impact

13:00 - 16:00 | 7 October 2024 | FUSEBOX, Kingston upon Thames, KT1 1TF

Join the South West London Research Support Network to explore the critical aspects of measuring outcomes and determining the impact of your research through evaluation.

As your project progresses, demonstrating its impact becomes essential. How do you show that your research is making a difference? How do you prove that it provides value for money? This session seeks to address these critical questions.

This session is the follow-up from the network cafe on the Importance of Evaluation to be hosted on 13 September at St George’s. You do not need to have attended the earlier session to attend this next one.

About the session

Led by Marcus Green, Optum, this network café will provide practical insights into measuring outcomes and proving impact. Evaluating outcomes and impact is central to understanding the success of your project and determining whether interventions, programs, or policies achieve their intended goals and improve the well-being of your population. It helps assess effectiveness, equity, and long-term sustainability, guiding future research and informing decision-making in healthcare research contexts.

“Being able to prove that you are providing value to citizens, patients, healthcare professionals and others across the system is the core reason for evaluating an intervention or programme. In this workshop, we will focus on some of the techniques for measuring financial and social value through evaluation.”

Key areas of focus include:

  • Understanding the significance of data specific to outcomes
  • Approaches for measuring and proving financial and social value
  • Interactive discussions to reinforce learning

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from real-world examples and gain valuable knowledge that can be applied to their own research projects.

About South West London Research Support Network

The South West London (SWL) Research Support Network, established by the NHS South West London Integrated Care System, is a collaborative initiative to empower local communities and voluntary organisations to conduct their own research.

Through a series of relaxed network meetings, members can engage in mutual learning opportunities with a diverse group of researchers and community members. This informal setting encourages open dialogue and the sharing of ideas, making it easier to change insights into various research methodologies and best practices.

In addition to exchanging knowledge with experienced community members and researchers, members will also have the chance to network with peers, which can lead to the formation of collaborative relationships and partnerships, that leverage the strengths and expertise of all involved.
